The conference planning committee is developing a student focused. informative, educational, and fun-filled weekend, designed to provide all participants with the techniques that will aid in assist them in seeking their goals.

    Tutors

Students in SSS are eligible for tutoring. Students can work with one tutor in a subject area throughout the entire semester meeting the tutor at regularly scheduled times on a weekly basis.

Tuturs are available for when you want to schedule only one appointment with a tutor because you need help understanding a particular concept or completing a specific assignment.

Walk-In Tutoring is also available for SSS students. SSS tutors will schedule blocks of time for walk-in tutoring. Tutor schedules will be posted in the SSS Office and on the website, so check these schedules for when walk-in times are available. .

    Academic Performance Monitoring

SSS advisors will monitor the academic progress of all participants. They will also provide intrusive advisement to help students successfully persist in their programs of study.

Each fall and spring semester, Progress Reports are sent out on behalf of all SSS participants. Faculty note a student’s attendance, test scores and current grade in the course and can make additional comments for success. Students with less than a “C” in any course are advised to meet with their Advisor to discuss a plan for improvement.

    SSS Advising

An individualized Academic Plan is developed with each new project participant during the first month of fall semester. As a contract between the participant and the SSS Advisor, this plan identifies specific academic/support needs and spells out strategies for addressing these needs.

Project participants receive ongoing academic support in time management, study skills development, note taking skills, problem solving skills, and conflict management. Students are guided in developing plans for addressing academic weakness and receive recognition for academic successes.

SSS serve as Advisors for all participants throughout tenure at UT. SSS Specialists have the advantage of knowing the individual needs of their students and can assist them in preparing their class schedules based on these needs. The SSS Specialist also provides ongoing major and career guidance and recommendations for graduate school and employment.

SSS provides confidential personal support, crisis intervention, and information and referral services. Students are guided to leadership opportunities on campus and are supported in leadership development.

    SSS Communication

SSS utilizes an email distribution, popular social networks and MYUT for sending information, opportunities, announcements to all participants and staff.
