    Services Offered

Upward Bound is an academic pre-college program for disadvantaged low-income and/or first generation students that provides nine months of academic tutoring to high school students grades 9-12. The program begins the second week after school starts in September and concludes in June. Students visit the campus twice weekly to receive academic tutoring in all subject areas. The tutoring is provided by certified teachers employed in the Toledo Public School System.

Additionally, during the Academic year monthly Saturday workshops, classroom instruction and college visitation takes place. Additionally, students are assisted with the completion of ACT, SAT, financial aid and college applications. Seniors are also provided assistance locating and applying for scholarships and college applications, ACT and SAT fees are paid for by Upward Bound.

When the academic portion of the program concludes, we immediately begin our five week Summer Residential Program. Forty students are selected from our existing 100 student body population to reside on the University of Toledo campus. Students are placed in the classes they have scheduled for Fall. Students who participated in the Summer Residential Program then have the opportunity to accompany the program to a College Symposium. In the past, the program has visited various colleges and universities in New Orleans, LA, Philadelphia, PA, Atlanta, GA, Toronto, Canada, Chicago, IL, Washington, DC, Orlando, FL and many other places.

Students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program attend public and/or parochial high schools in the Toledo area. Eligibility is determined on a case by case basis.
