Kate Abu-Absi has joined the College of Law to enhance alumni and student engagement as the program manager of alumni engagement & DEI initiatives. Her focus will be on developing and fostering events that build an inclusive environment across the Toledo Law community. She will assist in implementing strategic goals that include building and maintaining relations with College of Law alumni and executing and managing the College of Law’s diversity, equity, and inclusion plan.

“We are delighted to have Kate join the College of Law community. She brings both a wealth of experience of engagement within the University and the city of Toledo, as well as empathy, compassion, and commitment to the job,” shared Interim Dean Rebecca Zietlow.

Kate has worked at The University of Toledo for 28 years in both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. Her past positions include instructor in the Department of Theatre and Film, first-year orientation instructor, director of the Arts Living Learning Community, outreach and retention specialist for the College or Arts and Letters and most recently as assistant director of Residence Life.

Known to be a fierce student advocate and dedicated mentor, Kate’s continued connection to students post-graduation is a testament to her authentic commitment to them as individuals. In her role as assistant director of Residence Life, her focus was on fostering a sense of belonging, specifically for historically marginalized communities.

Kate has two children who have attended The University of Toledo. Her daughter, Isabel, graduated in December 2020 with a degree in English and a double minor in Arabic and Peace and Justice Studies and her son, Tom, will be graduating this May with a degree in Communication. When Kate is not on campus you will find her working in her garden, reading in her backyard or performing at one of Toledo’s community theatres.

Kate earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and her Master of Liberal Studies from The University of Toledo.
