MA in English, Writing Studies Concentration
The M.A. in English with a Concentration in Writing Studies introduces students to theoretical concepts, pedagogical activities, and research methods commonly used in various fields of writing studies, including Rhetoric and Composition. This M.A. degree is designed to help graduate students 1) start a career as a college writing instructor; 2) transition into a Ph.D. program in a writing-related area; and/or 3) acquire additional skills to complement current teaching, business, or various workplace situations.
Graduate classes are small and opportunities for multi-disciplinary work and independent study are available. Our faculty are experienced in multiple areas of writing studies, including writing theory and pedagogy, English as a Second Language, writing in multimedia environments, business and technical writing, and the study of rhetoric. In addition, as part of the degree, students will have the opportunity to enroll in a select number of courses in the study of literature. The program advisor will work with all students on selecting the best classes during their time in the program.
