Stay up-to-date with all of COBI's changes to operations in the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.



UToledo made the decision in early April to teach all summer courses remotely. Conversations continue about planning for Fall semester as we review direction from state leaders and best practices in higher education. 

Many classes will be using the Blackboard platform and may include "real-time" classes at your regularly scheduled class time through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. Some faculty and student services offices may also use Webex for classes or student conferences.

In preparation for the transition to online learning, assess your technology to make sure that you have what you need to participate in online learning. Use UToledo Online resources that allow you to check your browser and computer. See below for helpful tech support and remote access information:

Due to the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Spring commencement ceremony planned for May 9 in the Glass Bowl is canceled and all college convocations and honors programs planned for April and May also are canceled. Graduating students are invited to participate in the University’s Fall commencement planned for Dec. 12, 2020 in Savage Arena.


The College of Business and Innovation buildings (Stranahan Hall and the Savage & Associates Complex for Business Learning and Engagement) are closed, as the campus has shifted to remote work for the remainder of the Spring semester, effective March 18, 2020. Other than essential personnel, card swipe access will no longer work to enter College of Business and Innovation buildings, computer labs and classrooms.


Career Services recognizes that many students, alumni and community members have experienced a reduction in work hours or have lost their employment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, we will continue to monitor local part-time employment opportunities and share them on this website. Rocket students and alumni can also access Handshake to search for internships, part-time and full-time positions that are local, regional and national.

We are working remotely and are still available to assist you. However, at this time, we will not have campus tours or recruiting events on campus. Registration is going on now for Summer 2020: register now before sections fill. If you are graduating in Summer do not forget to apply for Graduation. You can do this by clicking on the “apply to graduate” under your student tab in myUT portal. You cannot graduate if you do not apply to graduate. 

Registration for Fall 2020 opened at midnight on Wednesday, March 18th, and we have been working on adding extra online sections and trying to make sure your registration goes smoothly for you. You can find your Fall 2020 registration recommendations in your MyUT portal under your plan ahead. You will also notice that all of your necessary overrides have also been preloaded to help you overcome any registration obstacles. If you do not meet the prerequisites for the course, you will not qualify for those overrides. You can read more about your courses in the course catalog while you are preparing to register.



As directed by the Provost, the Business Career Programs Office will be working remotely to assist you with your requests. Classroom Teaching

  • On-campus instruction has been canceled through the end of the semester; All academic courses will continue with remote delivery.

University Operations

  •  As the University moves to exclusively deliver remote instruction for the remainder of Spring semester, many campus facilities will close.


  • UToledo also is strongly discouraging all personal travel outside of the state of Ohio. If individuals must travel, they are highly encouraged to complete the University’s voluntary travel registration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1:  Since I am graduating at the end of Spring 2020, can I go home now and return for Spring 2020 commencement?

Answer: Due to the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Spring 2020 commencement ceremonies planned for May 9 in the Glass Bowl are canceled. All college convocations planned for April and May also are canceled. Graduating students are invited to participate in the University’s Fall commencement planned for December 12, 2020 in Savage Arena.

Q2: Can I go home for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester and return next semester?  

Answer: It depends. 

  1. Students may leave the US if they are permitted to travel by the U.S. government and if their home country will allow them to return home.  If students are in doubt, they should seek guidance from the Office of International Student and Scholar Services. 
  1. Students may return to UToledo in Summer 2020, if:

              a. They are taking classes (seated or online) to complete their approved plan of study, or

              b. They plan to take at least one seated class in Fall to complete their approved plan of study.  

3. Students may return to UToledo in Fall, 2020, if they are taking at least one seated class to complete their approved plan of study.

4. Students who are graduating in Spring 2020 but want to return to the UToledo to participate in Optional Practical Training (OPT) in Summer 2020 may do so as long as they return to the U.S. before Spring semester ends (May 8, 2020). It is further advised that students graduating in the Spring semester who have not yet done so, start their OPT application process right away if currently physically present in the United States.

5. Students should be aware of changes to these guidelines as UToledo adheres to federal, state and local mandates/recommendations related to COVID-19.



The Pacemaker Award Ceremony scheduled for March 27, 2020 has been canceled due to the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
