The Eighth Global Supply Chain Management Conference

GSCM 2020

This is an interdisciplinary conference meant to share emergent research ideas and current industry practices relating to logistics/operations/supply chain/ management that are of importance to both scholars and practitioners.

In addition to the option to submit a full paper/extended abstract (deadline: September 30th, 2020) there is also a forum for both researchers and industry participants to present topics which are novel and of an emergent nature which may not have been developed sufficiently for the prior call for participation but can inform near-future work.  For researchers, this would present an opportunity to present research concepts that extend previous research, is ongoing, or proposes novel scholarly directions.  For practitioners, this forum is an opportunity to share current – and ongoing – industry practices especially under the disruptive conditions of the present pandemic.  This 2nd track is modeled on the format of a roundtable to enable the sharing of new ideas between both the research and practitioner communities and inform both the practice and research domains.  Following is a call for presentation to both the academic and industry domains.

Industry Participants: “How has your firm responded to the COVID19 Pandemic?”

The ongoing COVID19 pandemic has disrupted, to various degrees, nearly every aspect of most business operations.  On the demand side, there have been both volume shocks (increase or decrease) and sudden product assortment changes.  For example, there has been a dramatic increase in demand for PPE and disinfecting supplies while demand for institutional glassware (i.e. for hotels and restaurants) has plummeted. This has resulted in stock-outs where demand suddenly spiked or excessive inventory for products suddenly in low demand. This has also affected a firm’s upstream supply chain since often inventory levels are kept at a minimum to enhance cash flow. At an operational level, firms also have had capacity issues relating to workforce availability (e.g. illness, social distancing, etc.) and difficulty in predicting the future demand environment.

Each firm/industry has been affected differently both in the extent and the nature of the pandemics disruptive effects.  For the GSCM conference, industry participants are invited to share: (1) how their firm was affected by the pandemic and (2) what mitigation strategies their firm employed to minimize, or even benefit, from the economy-wide effects of the pandemic and (3) what their firm’s vison of the post-pandemic future is. Submissions from small or family-owned businesses are especially encouraged.

Research

Academics are encouraged to present research ideas that may not have been sufficiently developed for the original call for participation but instead represents emergent or near-future research directions.  These ideas can be extensions of previous research or represent “blue sky” concepts that would have both research and practitioner interest.

Practitioners/Academics should submit (1) Title; (2) Bio-statement; (3) Summary of Presentation (including time needed).

This Call for Presentation is to share (1) Firm's responses/innovative practices in the COVID-19 world; (2) research ideas either in progress or extension of research ideas beyond recently published papers.

Presentation proposal deadline: October 30th, 2020

PowerPoint presentation deadline: November 20th, 2020.
