LAWN - 9310  PROSECUTOR CLINIC
[3 hours or 7 hours]  This clinical program places legal interns in prosecutors offices in Toledo and its environs.  While assigned to these offices, students handle misdemeanor and traffic prosecutions from the initial charging decision through final appeal.  Specialized placements are available in the juvenile prosecutors office, the Child Support division, Michigan prosecutor offices and the U.S. Attorneys office.  Substantial emphasis is given the development of courtroom skills.  Faculty supervision and regular classroom seminars complement the courtroom experience and provide an opportunity to evaluate the criminal process.  Most intern placements require that students obtain a legal intern certificate from the Ohio Supreme Court, as described elsewhere in this bulletin.  It is recommended that students complete, or take concurrently, Evidence and Criminal Procedure-Investigations.  Students have the option of taking this clinic for 3 or 7 hours.  The classroom component is the same for both options.  However, students electing the 3 hour course will carry a lighter caseload than those electing the 7 hour course.  Enrollment is with the permission of the instructor. [Fall/SP - d]

Skills such as listening, communications and negotiation are stressed in both the fieldwork and weekly classroom component. Students are taught theoretical techniques and are exposed to a variety of guest speakers in the Alternative Dispute Resolution field. This clinical program is designed to teach practical skills and give the students an opportunity to interact in the legal community in a new and emerging area of law.

LAWN - 9510  JUDICIAL INTERNSHIP
[2 hours]   Judicial Internship is a program in which students are placed in federal and state courts including the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Magistrate and Bankruptcy Courts, and the Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals.  An intern is expected to work a maximum of 20 hours per week.  Duties include the screening of cases and general research projects delegated by the judge or his staff.  An intern is expected to turn in to the program supervisor an interim report in the middle of the semester and a final report at the end of the semester documenting the writing experiences gained from the internship and describing the activities, experiences and cases which the intern worked on during the semester.  A pass/fail grade is awarded by the supervisor after an evaluation of the judges recommendation and the interns reports. [Fall/SP/SU - d]
