The University of Toledo Commencement

History and Traditions

The University of Toledo traditionally celebrates Fall Commencement inside Savage Arena on its Main Campus. However, the December 2020 ceremony will be held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. This unprecedented change marks a unique and historic moment in the University’s history as both the Spring and Fall 2020 celebrations will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, UToledo is committed to celebrating our graduates’ many accomplishments.

The university-wide commencement recognizes candidates for doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s and associate’s degrees across UToledo’s 13 colleges that operate on the traditional academic calendar.

Previously, UToledo held its main fall and spring commencement ceremonies in Savage Arena, with several colleges opting to hold separate convocation ceremonies. Only the College of Law and College of Medicine and Life Sciences, which operate on a different academic calendar, continue to celebrate commencement on different dates. These ceremonies will also be held virtually in December 2020 due to the pandemic.
