Undergraduate Programs

The Judith Herb College of Education teacher preparation program offers majors in early childhood, middle grades, adolescent to young adult, foreign language, music, visual art, and special education.

Master's Programs

Master's Programs 

Master's Programs are available in a wide range of disciplines including early childhood, special, secondary, middle grades, and foreign language education, curriculum and instruction, career technical education, ed. tech., ed. administration, education psychology, research and measurement, and educational theory and social foundations. 


The Licensure and Master’s Program (LAMP) is for people who have a bachelors degree and want to become a licensed teacher. The programs enable a student to get both Ohio licensure and a master’s degree in education.

The Educational Specialist degree at the University of Toledo is designed for individuals who wish to develop advanced knowledge and theory beyond the master's degree level, but may not wish to pursue a degree at the doctoral level.

There are a thirteen different doctoral programs (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) offered in the college. They include early childhood, special education, curriculum and instruction, secondary education, educational media, gifted and talented education, educational administration, educational psychology, educational sociology, foundations of education, history of education, and philosophy of education.

Endorsements and Licensure

There are several endorsements offered in the Judith Herb College of Education:  Ohio Reading Endorsement; Preschool Needs Endorsement; and Transition to Work Endorsement.

The Judith Herb College of Education also offers licensure in Career and Technical Education as well as the Licensure and Master's Program (LAMP) for people who have a bachelors degree and want to become a licensed teacher. The programs enable a student to get both Ohio licensure and a master’s degree.

The college offers Graduate Certificates in Pedagogy of Peace and the Virtual Academy Certificate  These are available fully online through BlackBoard where you will work with tenured faculty and be able to network with students from around the world.

Master's Degrees in Early Childhood Education and Special Education and the Graduate Certificate in Pedagogy of Peace are available fully online through BlackBoard where you will work with tenured faculty and be able to network with students from around the world.  Note:  Out-of-state and international students will pay the lower in-state tuition to complete the required four graduate courses for the Pedagogy of Peace certificate.
