Toledo Law to hold Diversity Day on March 13

March 5, 2012

The legal profession does not reflect the United States’ vibrant and increasingly diverse society. The only way to bring change in this area is for students from diverse backgrounds and life experiences to choose a career in the law.

To that end, The University of Toledo College of Law will host Diversity Day 2012 on Tuesday, March 13, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Law Center. The program is free and open to the public and includes a complimentary lunch.

Historically, minority group members have been underrepresented in law schools and the legal profession. Law schools, however, understand that diversity enriches the learning experience for every single student seated in the classroom. Schools accordingly seek students with a variety of backgrounds and experiences including students of different races and sexual orientations, from diverse regions of the country and world, and with varied personal experiences.

“Toledo Law’s Diversity Day 2012 shows our sincere commitment to strengthening the pipeline to law school for underrepresented populations in general, as well as increasing minority enrollment at Toledo Law,” said Jessica Mehl, Assistant Dean for Law Admissions at Toledo Law.

The Diversity Day 2012 program will include a tour of the law school, a mock law class, and lunch with members of the Toledo Bar Association Diversity Committee and current Toledo Law students.

The program is sponsored, in part, by the Law School Admission Council’s DiscoverLaw.org.

To register, contact law.admissions@utoledo.edu or 419-530-4131 by Friday, March 9.
