On June 12, 2012, The University of Toledo College of Law hosted a round table discussion with Cameron Davis, senior advisor on the Great Lakes to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator. About thirty Lake Erie and Great Lakes stakeholders were on hand for the event organized by the EPA.

The discussion focused on current issues, accomplishments, and challenges in the Great Lakes region. Among the topics addressed was the action plan under President Obama’s “Great Lakes Restoration Initiative” (GLRI). Current priorities under the GLRI, Davis said, include invasive species, contaminated areas of concern, and harmful algal blooms (HABs).

HABs were also the subject of two workshops sponsored by Toledo Law and Ohio Sea Grant earlier this year. Workshop materials with best practices and legal tools for reducing HABs in Lake Erie are available here.
