Toledo Law honors Thomas '87

Jim Thomas ’87 presents to law students during the leadership program he created and facilitated at the College of Law last month.

The University of Toledo College of Law and the Law Alumni Affiliate will recognize James D. Thomas ’87, a partner in the Columbus and Cleveland offices of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, with the Distinguished Alumni Award at the University’s Homecoming Gala on Friday, Oct. 9.

Thomas has more than 25 years of experience as a trial attorney and previously served as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Before joining Vorys, he was a partner with Squire Patton Boggs in Miami, Fla., where he led the global litigation practice group for many years. He currently focuses his practice on complex civil, business restructuring, internal investigations, ERISA, and construction litigation.

Last month, Thomas facilitated a leadership program for law students at the College of Law.

"I am delighted that we are honoring Jim Thomas as our distinguished alumnus,” said D. Benjamin Barros, dean of the College of Law. “Jim has had a truly remarkable career. I was fortunate to be able to sit in on part of a leadership program that he put on for our current students last month. I am grateful that Jim is willing to take the time to pass his skills along to the next generation of UT lawyers."

Thomas graduated from Toledo Law, where he was editor in chief of The University of Toledo Law Review, in 1987. He received his bachelor’s degree from Adrian College.
