Toledo Law Professors Teach U.S. Law in Poland for Second Year

September 30, 2016

Last year, several professors from The University of Toledo College of Law taught U.S. Law to Polish law students and legal practitioners at the University of Silesia in Poland, and more will be heading to Poland later this year.

In 2015, The University of Toledo College of Law, The University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, and Loyola University New Orleans College of Law partnered with the University of Silesia to create the School of U.S. Law in Katowice, Poland.

The program combines theory and practical skills courses taught by U.S. law professors using interactive and hands-on teaching methods. The programs runs one weekend per month for a total of 10 months, and students who complete the program are awarded a special certificate.

Last year, Professors Daniel Steinbock, Gregory Gilchrist, and Shelley Cavalieri taught courses at the University of Silesia in the program's first year. Now, as the program continues into its second year, four more Toledo Law professors will be teaching in Poland. Professor Benjamin Davis will teach Contracts, Professor Bruce Kennedy will teach Remedies, Professor Llewellyn Gibbons will teach Intellectual Property, and Professor Agnieszka McPeak will teach Legal Ethics.

"This program provides a fantastic opportunity for students in Poland to learn the foundation of U.S. law while also getting exposed to the unique style of teaching used at U.S. law schools," said Agnieszka McPeak, assistant professor of law. "The result is a wonderful cultural and educational opportunity for both our professors and the students in Poland. We're very excited to be a part of this program."
