The second of the two cemeteries
Cemetery, Toledo State Hospital, 2008.

This is the second of two cemeteries that remain on the former grounds of the Toledo State Hospital, now the University of Toledo’s Health Science Campus. The graves are marked only with small, brick-size stones engraved with a number, most of which have sunken into the ground and are now not visible. All that indicates that this is a cemetery are the “dimples,” or sunken areas in the ground that were created when the wooden coffins that the dead were buried in collapsed. The dimples are visible in this photograph. The last burial in this cemetery occurred in 1973.
