Women’s historical clothing, ca. 1890-1960. On loan from the Wood County Historical Center.
Ideas of femininity and womanhood are often intricately tied to notions of how women should dress. This red and black bodice with puffed shoulders was not only fashionable in the late Victorian period, it was also more practical for the professional woman as it was likely paired with a slimmer skirt than the hoopskirts popular in the mid-1800s. The hats on display date likely from the early 1900s to 1960.
