The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (commonly referred to as the Clery Act) is landmark federal legislation enforced by the Department of Education.

The Clery Act requires that all colleges and universities receiving Title IV financial aid must:

  • Maintain and update a public crime log
  • Publish an annual security and fire safety report that includes campus crime statistics, security policies, and information regarding fires in residential facilities among other topics
  • Provide timely warnings to students and campus employees about crimes posing an immediate or ongoing threat to the campus community
  • Devise and test emergency notification and evacuation procedures
  • Ensure basic rights to survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking
