PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Becoming a principal in Ohio requires a master’s degree and fulfillment of Ohio licensure requirements. Many applicants to the EDAS program already have a master’s degree in a related education field and don't wish to seek a second master's degree. To better address their professional needs the EDAS department now offers the educational administration and supervision graduate certificate. The requirements of this program help our well-prepared students meet Ohio's licensure requirements.

PROGRAM DETAILS
The graduate certificate for educational administration and supervision requires students to complete 21 semester hours of coursework comprised of the educational administration and supervision’s 7 core graduate-level courses and 220 hours of field experience. Courses are offered face-to-face, distance learning, and blended.

Faculty Expertise
Randall S. Vesely, Ph.D. – Dr. Vesely, associate professor of educational administration and supervision, has been faculty at the University of Toledo for six years. Dr. Vesely's expertise is the School Finance and School Law. He is nationally recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of Research and Practice by the National Education Finance Academy and brings the experience and knowledge base of a principal. Dr. Vesely works closely with building and district leaders to ensure that all aspects of the EDAS programs increase equity, quality, and services to all students.
Nancy Staub, Ed.D. – Dr. Staub serves as an associate professor in educational administration and supervision at The University of Toledo. She brings 26 years of Pre K -12 administrative experience to the position. Much of her work is focused on the development of principals through the use of data, technology, and performance-based assignments.
ACCREDITATION
The Judith Herb College of Education at The University of Toledo is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) from fall 2016 to fall 2023. The accreditation does not include individual education courses that the EPP offers to P-12 educators for professional development, re-licensure, or other purposes.
CAREER OUTLOOK
The National Association of Secondary School Principals estimates that 40% of today’s principals will retire over the next decade creating a surge in demand.
It's estimated the typical urban school district will spend an average of $75,000 per principal to recruit, hire, prepare, mentor, and train principals. As the financial burden continues to increase the demand for skilled administrators will outpace the supply.
