A master's degree in special education allows students to choose among a focus in special education in the areas of early intervention, preschool special needs, high incidence conditions (e.g. learning disability, intellectual disability, emotional disturbance), severe disabilities (e.g. physical, cognitive and social-emotional), transition, and behavior disorders. The location of the university offers students opportunities to work with individuals who have a wide range of abilities in a variety of school settings and intervention programs. The online program is a non-licensure program. We offer an on-campus master's program in special education for those who wish to earn a license.


The University of Toledo is a 4 year, public, regionally accredited university that has been serving students since 1872. The online master’s degree program in special education is built around the latest in educational theory, research, and practice. Students are able to choose from a variety of endorsements, including the transition to work endorsement, and the Ohio reading endorsement. Graduates from the master’s program typically pursue educational roles working with individuals who have disabilities and/or their families. They also have opportunities in social services, human services, and juvenile corrections.
