YouCollege Math Readiness Program – Math Camp
All new YouCollege freshmen less than 22 on ACT Math are required to participate in Math Camp (which includes the ALEKS Math Placement Exam). This will better prepare you for your entering math course this fall.

What is Math Camp?
Math Camp is a 6 week online tutorial starting on July 1st.

What is ALEKS?
ALEKS is an online system that provides the advantages of one-on-one instruction, 24/7, from virtually any Web-based computer.

Math Camp Step 1: Placement June 1 – June 30

PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING:

  1. The initial placement exam for YouCollege students is free. Whether you complete the exam or not, it counts as your one free exam.
  2. Please note that the average completion time is 90 minutes, though your time may be longer or shorter, so plan accordingly.
  3. Paper and pencil will be helpful. A calculator will be provided by ALEKS when needed, thus you should not use your own.
  4. You may be asked questions on material you have not yet learned. On such questions it is appropriate to answer, "I don't know." On any question that you have familiarity with, however, it is important to do your best.
  5. Your browser will need the ALEKS plug-in (which will download automatically) and java. Refer to this Troubleshooting Guide if you have problems.

Can I practice using ALEKS before I begin placement?

  • ALEKS will begin with a tutorial before your placement begins. You may also practice with a free trial at www.aleks.com but note that your progress in the trial will not be saved or applied to your placement score.
  • Your score is automatically added to your UT student profile which is accessible by your advisor.
  • You can view your score by using the same access link for which you took the exam, i.e. "New Incoming Student" or the "Current UT Student" link from http://www.aleks.com/utoledo/ppl. Click the assessment button and your score will appear.

Where does my score appear?

Math Camp Step 2: 6 Week of “Prep and Learn” July 1 – Aug 10

After taking your placement do not begin the “Prep-and-Learn” portion of ALEKS until July 1. The reason for this is that during this time you will have access to both distance instructors as well as a lab on campus during July 1 – Aug 10. Memorial Field House room 1240 will be available as an open lab with some support on TWR 12:00-3:00 pm.

Your Math Camp instructor will contact you if you have not logged into ALEKS. Your Math Camp instructor will send information to you regarding via virtual office hours, their e-mail and phone number in case you need help.

If you are able to accelerate your development this summer through Math Camp, the potential is to start in Math 1320 College Algebra (46% or above) this fall.

INCENTIVE: $200 towards your books for Fall Semester will be awarded to those who spend the most time and accelerate their learning in Math Camp this summer.
