Community Music Program - Music Lessons

Group piano lesson instructionWant to take music lessons? Would you like your son or daughter to learn an instrument or get additional training outside their school? Looking for performance opportunities? The University of Toledo Department of Music Community Music Program is a great way for community members to take advantage of the tremendous skill of our gifted faculty. UT's Community Music Program offers group music lessons in piano for beginners and private applied lessons in voice and a range of instruments for students of all ages and ability levels. BeInstrumental is a public charity dedicated to harnessing the power of the arts by providing aspiring musicians programs with educational opportunities, mentoring and the financial resources to pursue their music ambitions. We offer high quality instruction, flexible scheduling and affordable fees. 

Through our partnership with BeInstrumental, scholarships for students in elementary through high school are available for those who qualify. Scholarships for group lessons only. To see if you qualify, visit the BeInstrumental web site.

 

Group Lessons


Group piano lesson for kids at UTThe UT Department of Music Community Music Program currently offers separate group classes in beginning piano for kids and adults, and guitar classes for high school students and adults. Other instrument sessions may be added to the program in the future if there is interest. Group lessons are taught on a weekly basis in the UT Center for Performing Arts. See schedule below. Instruction will be provided by qualified, advanced music majors who study at The University of Toledo. Instructors who teach in the Community Music Program are approved by the department chair, Dr. Jason Stumbo.

 

GROUP LESSON REGISTRATION for Fall

Group Piano Lessons for Kids (Grades 1-6) - Classes run for 6 weeks beginning week of September 4 

Level 1 - Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 5 p.m. 
This class is best for kids with no music experience. It is expected that they will NOT know how to read music.

Level 1.1 - Tuesdays at 6 p.m. 
This class is for students who can read a little music and/or who have played an instrument other than piano.

Level 2 - Wednesdays at 6 p.m.
This class is for students who have had Level 1 or who have basic piano skill and can read music, i.e. must know the white notes on the piano, and whole, half and quarter notes.

 
Group Piano Lessons for Adults - classes run for 6 weeks beginning the week of september 4 

Level 1 - Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
This class is best for those with no music experience. It is expected that you will NOT know how to read music.

Level 1.1 - Thursdays at 6 p.m.
This class is for those who can read a little music and/or who have played an instrument other than piano.

Level 2 - Thursdays at 7 p.m.
This class is for students who have had Level 1 and/or who have basic piano skill and can read music, i.e. must know the white notes on the piano, and whole, half and quarter notes.

 
Guitar lessons for Adults or high school students - classes run for 6 weeks beginning the week of september 4

group lesson Tuition

Lessons are $60 for a six-week session and must be paid in full before the first lesson. Scholarships for group lessons (grades 1-6 only) are available through our partner, BeInstrumental, for those who qualify. Visit the BeInstrumental web site for details.

Group Lesson Cancelation Policy

All 6-week sessions are to be paid in full before the classes begin.  Refunds will be issued in full or in part according to the following conditions.  Otherwise, there will be no refund.

If YOU need to cancel your registration:

  • You have one week prior to the first lesson to cancel, so that your seat can be given to another student.
  • If you cancel one week prior to the first lesson, you will be given a full refund of any fees paid
  • Cancelations after one week before the first lesson will not be refunded.
  • If you are sick and cannot attend a lesson, please notify your teacher by email. But there will not be a refund.

 If WE cancel a lesson due to inclement weather or for any other reason:

  • Lessons will be cancelled only if the University of Toledo is closed for any reason or cancels classes during the time the lesson should have taken place.
  • If we cancel a class, a refund of $10 will be issued for that class.
  • The University very rarely cancels classes. However, you can find specific instructions on local television, radio and print media in addition to posting notices on the internet on the UT homepage, at www.utoledo.edu 

If the teacher is unable to be at the lesson, we will provide a substitute teacher. If this cannot be done, a refund of $10 for the lesson will be issued for that class 

MINOR PARTICIPATION FORM

If the participant is UNDER 18, they and their parent/guardian must complete a minor participation form. Download the form now. It will need to be completed and signed by the first lesson. Completed forms can be emailed to UTMusic@utoledo.edu, faxed to 419.530.8439 or brought to the first lesson. Students who are under 18 CANNOT PARTICIPATE WITHOUT THIS FORM!
