2018 Summer Music Workshops

Got plans for summer? The University of Toledo Department of Music offers several incredible music workshops during the summer! Some are geared toward students - from middle school through college, others are for music educators. From Jazz to Classical, from strings to flute to voice to choral conducting - there is literally something for just about everyone. Look below to view this past summer's workshops. Tracks: Vocal, Instrumental, Teacher-Training, Jazz Appreciation
Description: The UT Summer Jazz Institute is the place where ALL levels of jazz students can discover and achieve their jazz potential through the study of jazz in one of four exceptional programs: instrumental jazz, vocal jazz, teacher training* and jazz appreciation.
*The teacher training track is flexible to your time and needs. It provides enough contact hours for 1-3 hours of Continuing Education. Please check with your school district for its continuing education policies and forms.

Ages: Elementary School through Adult
Track 1: Beginning (1-3 years experience),  mornings (Amy Heritage) 
Track 2: Intermediate & Advanced (Joel Tse, full day)

EXTRAS Special guest Robert Johnson of Flute Specialists who will present a flute repair & care workshop. Additional workshops for all participants in yoga and breathing, music and movement. A concert performed by all students concludes the workshop on Friday at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

Amy Heritage will teach the beginner track at the 2015 UT Flute CampCost:
Track 1 – $150/week (mornings-only workshop), Track 2 – $300/week (full day). $65/day if you plan to attend fewer than 5 days. Scholarship funds available! See registration form for details.

EMERGING ARTIST Track - JULY 5-14 (21+)

Study and performance of the opera LITTLE WOMEN, plus Art Song Recitals
Performance Date of LITTLE WOMEN - July 14
(Admission to performance & Parking - $5 - all are welcome!)
Participant Fee - $450

High School Student TRACK - JULY 10-14

This weeklong workshop will focus on classical and musical theater training with a showcase at the end of the week. The workshop will include both solo and choral singing as well as choreography and activities such as yoga designed specifically for singers.  
Performance Date: July 14 (Admission to performance - $5 - all are welcome! Parking is free.)
Participant Fee - $250

Seminar - Mind, Body, Voice - Taking the Mystery out of Breath and Breath Support - July 7-8

This 2-day professional development seminar will include Vocal Pedagogy, Alexander Technique and Yoga Voice. This workshop is already included as part of the Emerging Artist track. Cost to take separately is $300.

Seminar - Music as a Business - July 12-13

This seminar is designed specifically for singers who want to pursue classical singing as a career. It is included already if you are planning to take the Emerging Artist track. If not, it can be taken by itself. Cost to take separately is $300

Seminar Savings

Want to take both seminars, but not the role study/art song recitals, AND save money? You can! We offer an Emerging Artist track that allows you to take only the seminars. The cost is $450, a savings of $150 over the cost of the two seminars separately.

Dr. Brad Pierson, Director of Choral Activities at The University of Toledo2017 choral Conducting & teaching workshop |  July 25-27

Faculty: Dr. Brad Pierson, UT Director of Choral Activities

This comprehensive and immersive choral conducting workshop is intended is designed to serve and educate individuals as conductor, teacher, leader, scholar, performer, and servant. Conductors will engage in sessions covering a wide variety of topics. This year's workshop will allow conductors to choose from either a three day immersion workshop, or a one day workshop. Coffee and a light breakfast will be provided in the mornings. Ohio Teachers - this workshop will provide 18 contact hours of professional development. Please provide any required paperwork as needed. 

This workshop can work with just about any schedule. Choose between a 3 day option or a 1 day option. A 25-song choral reading packet, sponsored by Musical Resources, is included with either option. For more details about the schedule of each option, visit the workshop web page at
