Excavating Hidden History

A performance by Jim Ferris

What do you do when you learn you're not exactly who you think you are? And why does Uncle Joe want me to just shut up?

This solo performance draws from familial and personal experience to explore the construction of cultural identity. Particular attention is paid to race and disability as components of identity.

Dr. Jim Ferris is a poet and performance artist. Past president of the Society for Disability Studies, he has received numerous awards for his work in performance, mathematics and writing, including the Main Street Rag Book Award for "The Hospital Poems."
