Degrees Offered

The Environmental Studies program offers courses of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences.


Degree Requirements

All students in both Environmental Studies (ENVS) degree programs must complete Environmental Studies 2010 and 3900, Biology 2150, 2160 and 3050, Chemistry 1230, Geology 1020, 2010, 2020 and 2030, Math 2600, Political Science 4340, Economics 4240, Geography and Planning 3900, and Philosophy 3180. Prerequisites will be waived for ENVS students enrolling in the above courses.

All ENVS students also will select an area of concentration in an academic department within the Arts and Sciences College. Students must complete at least 21-22 hours of course work in their area of concentration, depending upon the department chosen. Some departments may provide a list of courses appropriate for ENVS majors. Students also are required to complete an environment-related internship in an agency, corporation, university laboratory or other approved location.

Inaddition to the above requirements, candidates for the B.S. in Environmental Sciences must complete Biology 3060, Chemistry 1240, 1280 and 1290, Math 1750 and 1760 or 1850 and 1860. Candidates for the B.A. in Environmental Studies must take Math 1180 unless they choose an area of concentration in Economics, in which case the following Math options apply: Option 1: Math 1320 and 1330; Option 2: Math 1340; Option 3: Math 1750-1760.
