The Legal Assisting and Political Science program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree.


Degree Requirements

This 2-plus-2 program allows the student to complete an Associate's degree in legal assisting at The University of Toledo Community and Technical College and a baccalaureate degree in political science. Students selecting this program should work closely with their academic advisers in both parts of the program and with the Legal Assisting Program Coordinator. After completing the Associate's degree requirements, a student must complete at least 64 hours of additional course work in the College of Arts and Sciences. This course work must include the following:

A.0-14 hours in a foreign language, depending on demonstrated proficiency. Students entering the Community and Technical College in the 2-plus-2 program should take a foreign language competency exam immediately and concurrently take language courses with the legal assisting curriculum.

B.Three courses (minimum 9 hours) in the humanities (history, English literature, fine arts, philosophy or communication).

C.Two courses (minimum 6 hours) in natural sciences (astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology or physics).

D.Completion of the major in political science as follows:

1.PSC 1200 American National Government (4 credits) plus a minimum of 30 additional hours in political science chosen in consultation with a departmental adviser.

2.one course from three of the following four fields*: Public Administration PSC 3420 Principles of Public Administration 3 International Relations PSC 2700 Principles of International Relations 3 Comparative Government PSC 2610 Government of Great Britain or PSC 2620 Comparative Politics of Continental Europe or PSC 2660 Politics in Africa or PSC 2680 Governments of Asia 3 Political Theory PSC 2800 Principles of Political Theory 3 *Note: pending final curriculum approval process

3.Completion of additional courses in the department to satisfy the 30-hour requirement.

E.Minimum of 18 hours (six courses) in fields related to political science (these could include courses in such areas as law and society, legal history, criminology, philosophy of law, business and labor law).

F.Electives to bring the total to a minimum of 64 hours. Students must also satisfy The University of Toledo Core Curriculum requirements.
