Position Information:

Job Title: Title I Reading Teacher

Licensure Needed: K-5 Reading and Ohio HQT requirement

Job Description: The Title 1 teacher promotes and develops successful reading instruction for students (grades K-5) and performs related duties in accordance with school policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Title 1 teacher is responsible for group and individual instruction of reading for students who meet state and federal guidelines. The Title I teacher creates targeted instruction and measures student progress. The Title I teacher is also responsible for partnering with parents through collaboration and communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Implement a variety of assessment instruments to determine eligibility and instructional needs of students in reading. Collect and monitor student data and provide pre-and post-assessment data to school administrators.
  • Utilize a variety of situationally appropriate instructional techniques and researched best practices in order to meet student needs.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective student learning.
  • Effectively communicate progress to students, parents, and school leadership.

Physical demands:

  • Occasional exposure to students who are unruly or disruptive
  • Must operate computer technology (hardware and software), basic office equipment such as copiers, and phone/communications equipment.

May occasionally be required to lift up to 50 lbs. (as in moving files or books). Position Type: Full-time


Art and Soul is a neighborhood after school program for school-age children living in poverty.  It is a faith-based program that offers a nutritious meal, tutoring and homework help, and an opportunity to explore self-expression through a variety of arts. We seek adults and teens to serve as role models and mentors to encourage children and to promote education and the arts as pathways to a healthier future.
