Molecular and Cellular Bone Biology Laboratory

Welcome to the Molecular and Cellular Bone Biology Laboratory at the University of Toledo, within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The laboratory is directed by Dr. Beata Lecka-Czernik, a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery with joint appointment in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.

Dr. Lecka-Czernik is recognized for her studies on age-related bone loss, the effect of anti-diabetic drugs on bone, and mechanisms which direct bone cell differentiation. Currently, her research group is investigating molecular mechanisms which can improve diabetic bone status and fracture healing, by using bone-specific gene and stem cell therapies combined with pharmacological medication commonly used in clinical practice.
