On behalf of the trustees, I would like to welcome you to The University of Toledo. All of us have been appointed by the Governor of Ohio and take our responsibilities and commitments to this university very seriously. Shaping the strategic vision for The University of Toledo is one of our most important roles. We are dedicated to fostering an environment that enables all of our students, faculty and staff to achieve our institutional vision as a transformative force.
These are challenging times not only in our immediate community, but also in our state and in our nation. All public institutions are facing significant challenges—not only from Ohio’s budgetary constraints, but also from the need to increase the levels of learning for the people of our state—beginning in pre-school and all the way through the undergraduate experience.
Challenges bring opportunities, however, and the trustees see this institution as a pivotal force and community leader as we pursue excellence in academics, student life, research and economic development. As we set university policies and enact our fiduciary responsibilities to the taxpayers and our constituents, we are constantly guided by the university strategic plan. We also continue discussions with Governor Ted Strickland and Chancellor Eric Fingerhut regarding the University System of Ohio and the key role of The University of Toledo in this proposed system.
The University of Toledo makes a difference in the lives of many and it is an honor and privilege to serve as chair.
