Technology Help for Students
Personal Computers
Online students will need access to a personal computer (Windows, Mac or Linux) and
an Internet connection. While our help desk staff can offer some technical support, students are ultimately responsible for the proper functioning of their own equipment.
- Dell Computer discounts
- Apple Educational Store
- Microsoft Software
- Adobe Software
- Additional software and plug-ins. Your course may or may not require you to download and install these free programs.
The Main and Health Science Campuses offer some resources:
Blackboard
Blackboard is our online course management system. It functions as your virtual classroom.
You can log in to Blackboard before the beginning of the semester for more tutorials, but your actual courses won't appear there until the first day of classes. New students will need to activate their UTAD account first.
Specific Blackboard Help Topics
- How Do I Clear My Web Browser's Cache, Cookies, and History?
- IE Information Bar Download Warning Message Instruction
LockDown Browser
If your course requires the use of Respondus LockDown browser for online testing, you will need to use this software to take quizzes and/or exams.
Please note that the browser cannot be used in virtual machine software such as Virtual PC, VMWare and Parallels.
Educational and Research Technology
Below are some additional tools that may be used to enhance your online learning experience:
- Teamviewer. Collaborate by sharing screens in real time with students and faculty members. (User Guide)
- UT Virtual Lab. Web access to virtual computers loaded with all the software you need, with just a browser and Internet connection.
- Blackboard IM. Collaborate with classmates and instructors through Blackboard. Use it to whiteboard with study groups, ask an instructor a question or video chat with classmates or colleagues.
- Free Word Processing software
- Web Browsers
