At the morning commencement exercise on May 8, 2006, President Dan Johnson announced that Judith and Marvin Herb and their family, had made the largest gift ever given to the University. The Herbs have establish a 15 million dollar endowment to support activities in the College of Education. The College of Education has been named in honor of Judith Herb and will be called; Judith Herb College of Education, The University of Toledo. Judith Herb currently chairs the Colleges "Dream Team", a think tank of sorts to keep the College thinking big. She had previously established an endowed chair in the College of Education with a gift of one million dollars. Thomas J. Switzer, Dean of the Judith Herb College of Education, said, I am very proud to have the College of Education named after Judy. She has never forgotten the role that the College of Education, The University of Toledo, and the schools and city of Toledo played in her early life. She is one of the most caring people I have ever met. Now she is giving back to her college, university, and city so that other young students can receive an education that will open the doors of opportunity. The endowment will support scholarships, faculty development, the continuing development of an electronic assessment system, and research on learning.
