Dixie Newell teaches undergraduate and graduate Early Childhood Special Education classes in the Judith Herb College of Education. Dixie is a State of Michigan and Nationally Certified School Psychologist, who received her Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree, and Specialist in Psychological Services degree from Central Michigan University. Dixie practiced as a school psychologist for over 30 years in preschool through high school settings. Her interests include understanding and improving the mental health of staff and students, implementing best practices for students based on developmental abilities, and academic and behavioral interventions at the individual and systems level.

Dixie has facilitated, as well as conducted district-wide staff and parent training in Autism Spectrum Disorder, behavior management, and various mental health topics.
