Dr. Richard Welsch is an Associate Professor of Special Education with teaching and advisement responsibilities in mild/moderate licensure programs at the Undergraduate, Masters, Education Specialist, and Doctoral levels. He has served as a special education teacher and central office administrator, working with students who have an array of disabilities and their teachers and parents. In the field of personnel preparation, Dr. Welsch is currently the co-PI on an OSEP funded project (325T) to redesign the special education licensure program. He has been the PI on two one-year state grants designed to increase the number of licensed special education teachers in Ohio and the PI on two grants to provide summer workshops to assist special education teachers in grades 7-12 in meeting Highly Qualified Teacher status through the acquisition of subject matter competence in core content areas. Dr. Welsch is active in committee work for the Council for Learning Disabilities and has been a member of the Judith Herb College of Education's Academic Affairs Committee. He presents regularly at national and regional professional conference and has published in the field.
