    Licensure Alternative Master's Program (LAMP)

The Judith Herb College of Education (JHCOE) has licensure programs for people like you who have a bachelor’s degree and want to become a teacher. These are our Licensure Alternative Master's Programs (LAMP), which enable students to get both Ohio Licensure and Masters Degree in Education. The Masters degree is optional and not required to become a licensed teacher.

There are five different programs at different grade levels:

    1.  Early Childhood -- able to teach grades PreK-3

    2.  Middle Childhood -- able to teach grades 4-9 in two subject areas (math, science, reading/language arts, social studies)

    3.  Adolescent and Young Adult -- able to teach grades 7-12 (one subject area)

    4.  Special Education K-12 -- This program does not require an evaluation.  Please contact 419.530.2495 to schedule an appointment to learn how to begin.

    5.  Multi-Age -- able to teach grades PreK-12 in Art, Music, or Foreign Language (Spanish, German, French)

NOTE: The program and the courses taken as an undergraduate will determine how long it will take to complete each of these programs.

As an initial step, click on the link below titled, "LAMP Application for Review of Course Work" and complete the information requested.  There is no cost or commitment to The University of Toledo by completing this application.  It is a free service provided to help you decide if this is the right program and institution for you.  The evaluation needs to be performed prior to scheduling an appointment.  This does not apply to Special Education.

Once completed, please print, sign, and send the application to the address indicated on the second page along with unofficial transcripts for each institution attended.  Transferred credit placed on one institution's transcript from another institution will not be sufficient.  An e-mail will be sent confirming receipt of the information.  The review of your course work will begin to determine what courses are still needed to complete Teacher licensure (and Master's degree).

The results of the evaluation will be returned to you in approximately 2-3 weeks.  At that time an appointment may be scheduled to discuss the results and ask questions.

In the meantime, please click on the link below titled, "Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)".  Additional questions beyond the FAQs may be answered during the scheduled meeting.

The link titled, "LAMP Process and Procedures" is a step-by-step guide for LAMP.  Currently you are on step 1.
