    Middle Childhood Education

Holders of the Middle Grades License will be able to teach ages 9-14, grades 4-9 in the two subject areas in which they hold a license. Students select two licensure areas from:

    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Language Arts
    • Social Studies

Teachers with the Middle Childhood License will be qualified to work in public and private elementary schools, middle schools, and junior high schools that have grades 4-9.

The number of middle schools has grown dramatically since the 1960's replacing junior high schools as the major type of school for teaching pre and early adolescents. Therefore, there are greater opportunities for employment in these schools. The number of states granting credentials to teach in middle schools has grown to more than 33, so holders of this license will also have a great advantage for obtaining a teaching position in many states.
