Elective Description/Requirements: A two-week elective spent on a one-to-one basis with an outpatient private practice dermatologist in Lima. Responsibilities include taking a history and performing a physical, as well as assisting in minor surgeries. Reading about dermatologic disorders seen in the office is expected.

Length of Clerkship: 2 weeks

  1. Recognize common skin disorders and treat them appropriately. (EPOs: PC-1, MK-4)
  2. Define the basic principles of the pathophysiology and etiology of disease using the skin as a vivid visual model. (EPOs: PC-1, MK-4)
  3. Appreciate the necessity of taking a complete history for success in both diagnosis and therapy of skin disease. (EPOs: PC-1, PC-7)
  4. . Describe the situation when referral to a dermatologist is necessary (EPOs: PC-7)
