College of Business and Innovation

Welcome to the Department of Accounting

The Department of Accounting offers courses in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, accounting systems and taxation. Completion of an accounting area of specialization leads to professional careers in public accounting, business and government and begins the preparation for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examinations.

The specialization in accounting is designed to enable students to advance more rapidly to positions of responsibility and leadership in their chosen fields. In the state of Ohio, all candidates taking the CPA exam must have completed 150 credit hours. Accounting career fields other than public accounting have not adopted the 150-hour requirement. The department of accounting offers a graduate degree that can be pursued in addition to a bachelor's degree.

students will learn about data validation and database functions such as DSUM. Writing macros in Excel
will also be covered in this session.

  Writing - Intermediate

Business Writing that Works:  Good writing is the memo that gets action and the letter that says what a
       phone call can't.

In business writing, the language is concrete, the point of view is clear, and the points are well expressed.
Good writing is hard work, and even the best writers get discouraged. However, with practice you can feel
more confident about your own writing. This workshop will give participants the tools to become better writers.

      Topics include:
o   The value of good written communication.
o   How to write and proofread your work so it is clear, concise, complete, and correct.
o   How to apply these skills in real world situations.
o   Understanding the proper format for memos, letters, and e-mails.
