Academy of Medical Educators
The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (COMLS) Academy of Medical Educators is established as a faculty development endeavor that will reinforce and invigorate the academic identity of clinical and basic science faculty in our organization, including those who contribute to undergraduate and graduate medical education.
The Academy of Medical Educators is established for the faculty of the COMLS, consistent with its stated short-term and long-germ goals. The benefits of Academy membership to individual faculty members include: the receipt of teaching feedback; team scholarship; recognition of Academy membership; career advancement; stimulation of teaching identity and passion; and mentoring. It is anticipated that members of the Academy will enjoy a well-deserved form of self-promotion and branding, and members will engage in the traditions that will be established by the Academy.
The Academy will also provide value for medical and graduate students, as well as post-graduate trainees who will be the beneficiaries of the enhanced teaching skills and scholarship of COMLS faculty.
Finally, the COMLS will benefit from the Academy of Medical Educators in terms of favorable academic branding, tradition, and other opportunities. Such benefits include:
- the development of a larger community of master educators as the Academy develops a critical mass of members;
- the development of selective standards of membership that reinforce excellence in teaching;
- recruitment leverage of new faculty; and
- support of the academic mission of the COMLS.
The Academy will support Advantage Toledo, Innovate Toledo, and Healthy Toledo, the three pillars of UToledo.
