Medical Student Education
Third and Fourth year medical students are welcome to rotate through the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Current UT students who are interested in an Orthopaedic Surgery rotation should contact the Clerkship Coordinator. If an advisement session is needed please call to schedule an appointment.
Students from outside institutions interested in rotations should email Melissa Hansen in order to start the application process.
The Ortho Experience at UTMC:
While on rotation in the Orthopaedic Department students attend weekly didactics in the Orthopaedic Conference Room. Every Wednesday X-Ray Conference is held for Attending Physicians, Residents, and Medical Students. You will also attend our Thursday Lecture Series, which consists of local Attending Physicians presenting on their specialities to the Residents and Medical Students. Once a month during our Thursday Lecture Series a Journal Club is held at a local restaurant.
A general description of our Orthopaedic Surgery Clerkship elective can be found here. A sample curriculum can be found here. Please also read our Ortho Student Handbook. While on rotation if time off is needed please fill out the Absence Request Form.
The "Orthopaedic Trauma Review for Medical Students" is an example of supplementary materials provided during a lecture for the medical students.
