School for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education (IPE)

“Interprofessional education occurs when students from two of more professions learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes” WHO, 2010

Interprofessional Education (IPE) encompasses students from a variety of healthcare programs to learn about, with, and from each other.

Effective health care does not rely solely on one profession, its takes an interprofessional team. Interprofessional collaboration is of vital importance to improve clinical outcomes and reduce costs in health care.  The goal of the program is for students to gain an understanding and appreciation of the roles and scope of practice of different professions; the impact of “team” on patient care and quality improvement; and the importance of the IPEC Core Competencies.
