The Master of Education in Art Education degree is designed for those who hold a bachelor's degree and wish to earn an Ohio teaching license in conjunction with a master's degree. The master's program is located in the Center for the Visual Arts, adjacent to the internationally recognized Toledo Museum of Art.
Unique classroom location. Our master's program is located at the UToledo Center for Visual Arts, which includes two state-of-the-art buildings that house:
Fluid skill set. When you graduate with an art degree, you don't just improve your drawing skills (although that happens too!). You acquire a new set of skills to make you a more versatile job candidate.
Hands-on practice. You have access to the Museum's permanent collections, as well as many outstanding temporary exhibitions. The collections trace nearly the entire history of art, providing primary sources for the study of visual creativity from remote antiquity to the present day.
Faculty collaboration. Our faculty represent diverse interests in art education. Their wide spectrum of research, leadership and involvement in the field of art education has received national and international recognition. Your faculty advisor will assist you in choosing courses to fulfill your degree requirements and guide you in preparing for future employment.
Most UToledo graduate students in the Art Education master’s program are currently employed as teachers or work at other institutions that have a strong educational component.
UToledo’s graduate program provides the ability to teach in new settings (such as community colleges) or teach more advanced subject matter in your current setting.
