Theatre Production Auditions

Show us what you've got!

Actor onstage with a document in handAuditions are held in the Department of Theatre and Film to determine a cast for a particular show. An audition is NOT required to be accepted into a Theatre or Film degree program at the University of Toledo.

Auditions to our plays are open to everyone – including non-students.  Our program seeks to create an inclusive and equitable space and follows a conscientious approach to casting that honors the diversity in our lived experiences and identities. Our goal is to authentically and imaginatively bring all stories to the stage and screen.

This production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM: A JUKE BOX MUSICAL will blend Shakespeare’s famous play with contemporary music into a brand new Juke-Box musical, providing an opportunity for learning actors to not only learn how to navigate classical verse and texts but a chance to perform in a Broadway style musical.

UTOLEDO Department of Theatre and Film productions are open to all students and community members. Whether you are a major or loved doing theatre in high school or in the community – or are even still a high school student or haven’t been a student in years - all are welcome to audition and participate.

Music and Dance Rehearsals start in December and the production starts rehearsing in earnest early in the spring semester with performances taking place next April.

After you complete the audition form above, sign up for a time slot in the Center for Performing Arts. Time slot sign-up sheets are in the main office, PA 1030. They will be available after Monday, Aug. 26.

Visit the Current Season webpage to see our upcoming productions.

PREPARING FOR YOUR AUDITION

WHAT TO DO

Please sign up for a 10 – min audition slot either online or on the office window of the Department of Theatre and Film in the Center for Performing Arts on the UTOLEDO campus.

Please prepare a memorized monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays, 60 – 90 seconds in length and then a short 20 – 30 second snippet of a song. You can sing acapella, even if it is something like HAPPY BIRTHDAY or a favorite hymn or Christmas Carol or self-accompany with a karaoke track from your phone of your favorite Taylor Swift bop or contemporary song.

Complete the audition form. Tell us a bit about yourself – past performance experiences (not a requirement), your schedule and contact info. Then please sign up for a 5-minute audition slot in the Department of Theatre and Film Office (posted on the outside of the office window).
