Matt Yockey, Professor of Film

Photo of Matt Yockey, associate professor of film at the University of ToledoDr. Matt Yockey joined the Department of Theatre and Film in 2010. He serves as head of the Film Program and Associate Chair of the department.  Dr. Yockey teaches courses on film history, film theory, global cinema, auteur cinema, film genres, and screenwriting.

Dr. Yockey’s research focuses on identity and popular culture. His essays have appeared in the following journals: The Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies, The Velvet Light Trap, CineAction, Transformative Works and Cultures, The Journal of Fandom Studies, European Journal of American Studies, and Studies in Comics.

He’s also contributed to these collections:

His books include the monograph Batman (TV Milestones Series) (Wayne State University Press, 2014) and, as editor, the anthology Make Ours Marvel: Media Convergence and a Comics Universe (University of Texas Press, 2017).

Dr. Yockey earned a combined Ph.D. in Communication and Culture and American Studies from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2007.
