Conner Lombardi, a fourth-year dual MD, MBA student at The University of Toledo, has been awarded one of three $1,000 scholarships at the 2024 Doing Right Spotlight event. Conner’s scholarship is from 2023 Doing Right Spotlight honoree Aly Sterling Philanthropy in recognition of his exceptional dedication to community service. Set to graduate in May 2024 in the top quartile of his medical school class and with a 3.85 GPA in his MBA program, Conner was elected to both the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society. He also received the American College of Physician’s Medical Student of the Year Award. Conner's journey is a testament to his commitment to making a tangible difference in patients’ life through compassionate interpersonal care and groundbreaking scientific research.  

Conner has been pivotal in numerous research projects across medicine, transplant, urology, surgery, and social determinants of health at the University of Toledo. Through these experiences, he developed a strong research skillset and a genuine love for medical research. He has accumulated over 20 publications and presented these works via numerous conferences at the local, national, and international level. Driven by his own experience learning the intricacies of the scientific process, Conner has dedicated himself to supporting young researchers at the University of Toledo and has served as a research mentor to dozens of UT medical and undergraduate students.

Conner's volunteer work is characterized by a holistic approach to healthcare equity and medical education. His engagement with the UTCOMLS Ambassador Program, interdisciplinary research initiatives, Community Care Clinics, instructional contributions at the Lloyd A. Jacobs Interprofessional Immersive Simulation Center, and participation in Narcan distribution initiatives in Toledo underscore his belief in the power of community outreach and education in addressing healthcare disparities.

On March 15th, Conner matched at his number one choice for internal medicine residency, the University of Colorado. He aspires to specialize in gastroenterology, where he can leverage his medical expertise and empathetic approach to patient care. His ambition is to provide hope, care, and guidance to patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments, embodying the principles of compassion and service that have guided his academic and volunteer endeavors.

Conner Lombardi's story is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to improving community health and well-being. His receipt of the $1,000 scholarship from Aly Sterling Philanthropy is not only a recognition of his past achievements but also an investment in his potential to effect positive change in the medical field. As he prepares to embark on his residency, Conner's commitment to healthcare equity, patient care, and community service remains steadfast, promising a future where his contributions continue to make a significant impact
