Favour Ohaezu, a biology major with a chemistry minor in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, is set to graduate in December 2025. Her journey, shaped by her passion for healthcare, mentorship, and leadership, recently culminated in receiving one of three $1,000 scholarships at the Third Annual Doing Right Spotlight. Favour received her scholarship from Jupmode. This honor not only recognizes her academic excellence but also her unwavering commitment to empowering others.

Favour’s passion for healthcare stems from her early experiences in Nigeria, where she saw families struggle with poor health literacy and the misuse of medications. This exposure motivated her to pursue a career in medicine so she could provide both care and education to underserved communities.

Since moving to Toledo, she has remained deeply committed to giving back. She has volunteered at the University of Toledo Medical Center, assisting patients in the Orthopedic and Emergency Departments. Beyond healthcare, she mentors elementary school students through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio, helping them develop leadership and communication skills. Her personal experiences with overcoming challenges have given her a strong sense of purpose in supporting others as they navigate their own journeys.

Favour’s long-term goal is to create a mentorship network that connects middle and high school students with college mentors in their fields of interest. She envisions a structured program that not only provides academic support but also teaches essential life skills such as time management, leadership, and confidence-building.

In addition to her mentorship initiatives, she plans to pursue a Doctor of Medicine degree and develop community education programs focused on preventive healthcare and medical literacy. By collaborating with local schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations, she hopes to improve access to reliable health information and medical care for underserved populations.
