A group of friends and I collaborated with ProMedica, specifically its children trauma center, and we led a local summer music camp that was funded through the community and features on iHeart Radio.

My friends and I all grew up playing instruments in band, orchestra, and/or privately, so we wanted to give back to the community. The summer band camp was a 5 week program of which we invited children from ProMedica's children trauma center in hopes "to provide healing and connections through music". Meanwhile, my friends and I were the group leaders and helped coordinate the rotations of our classes. Throughout the camp, students got to learn how to read music, experience music therapy, and experiment with various instruments. By the 4th week, the children and we would work together to see which instrument suits best to each child. Then, with the money that we raised personally and through the community supported GoFundMe (featured on iHeart Radio), we purchased those said instruments and surprised the children during the 5th week with their instruments, wrapped up as gifts.

Many of the children to this day are still taking private lessons who started back in 2019, and since then, many children have got musical healing as well as safety, like some children finally being discharged or getting adopted. Even though this happened years ago, the impact still speaks volumes to this day, and it has been unforgettable summer. I could talk for hours how volunteering and community service has changed my life for the better, but I guess that will be for a different day!

Thank you so much, EIC (Entrepreneurship and Innovation Club), for what you do in the local Toledo community. Most students do not know the huge impact EIC has, so as a voice for UT students, thank you—genuinely.
