On Campus Employment
How Do I Get a Job?
- Job notices are available in the Rocket Career Center.
- Ask classmates, professors, and friends if they know of any jobs available on campus.
- Also, go to any office on campus and ask if they are hiring students (dining services, residence halls, library, etc.).
- On campus employment includes Main Campus and Health Science campuses.
- Jobs which are listed as “work study” are only available to U.S. citizens.
What Do I Do After I Get a Job on Campus?
- Complete an I-9 Application e-form on the iRocket Portal and let us know that you will need to apply for a Social Security Number within the application. You will be prompt to schedule an I-9 appointment after completing the e-form in which we will review your documents and give you further instructions. Go to iRocket Portal.
- The I-9 application will require you to upload an employment verification letter. Provide your employer the link to the Employment Verification Letter Template.
What Do I Do After I Get a Job with Chartwell’s Dining Services on Campus?
- If you are employed with Chartwell’s Dining Services on campus, their HR team will do your I-9 and you will only need to submit a Social Security Letter Request e-form on the iRocket Portal. We will give you further instructions on how to apply for a Social Security card when we approve your request. Go to iRocket Portal.
Cannot Find On Campus Employment but need a Social Security Number?
- Stop in to OISSS and ask for a letter explaining you are not required and are not eligible for a Social Security Number. This letter can be used in place of a Social Security Number.
Are There Rules to Working On Campus?
- International students cannot work more than 20 hours a week during the academic year. During breaks and summer, most international students can work more than 20 hours.
- You must be a full-time student or have an approved Reduced Course Load request to
work on campus:
- Undergraduate Students: register for a minimum of 12 credits/semester; maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- Graduate Students: register for a minimum of 9 credits/semester; maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- There are a few exceptions for registering for less than the minimum course load requirement, complete the Reduced Course Load e-form on the iRocket Portal to see if you qualify.
- Once you graduate you are no longer eligible for on-campus employment unless you have been approved for Post-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT).
