Dr. Gerald S. Jakubowski was named vice president and provost of the Arizona State
University East campus in July of 2004. He had served as Dean of the College of Science
and Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Loyola Marymount University
in Los Angeles, California since 1990.
He received his BSME, MSME and PhD degrees from the University of Toledo in 1974,
1976 and 1978 respectively.
A Past National President of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE)
and Past National President of Triangle Fraternity, he also serves on the Board of
Directors of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), on the SAE Foundation Board
of Trustees, on the Executive Committee of the Engineering Accreditation Commission
of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In 1984 he received the
Dow Outstanding Young Faculty Award and in 1987 the Outstanding Zone Campus Representative
Award, both from ASEE. He received the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award in 1985 and
the Excellence in Engineering Education Award in 1998, both from SAE. In 1996 he received
the Triangle Service Key, Triangle Fraternity's highest award.
He is a Fellow Member of ASEE and ASME and is a member of the following honoraries:
Tau Beta Pi - National Engineering Honorary Fraternity, Pi Tau Sigma - National Mechanical
Engineering Honorary Fraternity, Sigma Xi - Scientific Research Society, Alpha Sigma
Nu - National Jesuit Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi - National Honorary, Blue Key -
National Honorary, and Order of Omega - National Honorary. In addition, he served
as a NASA Faculty Fellow in 1983 and 1984.
His wife, Lynn, is Director of Print Production for Office Depot. His son, Jerry,
is an electrical engineering graduate from Villanova University and works for Amtrak
in Philadelphia. His daughter, Jamie, is a graduate of Arizona State University and
is a high school mathematics teacher in Tempe, Arizona.
