Mr. William D. Marohn

On October 16, 1997 Mr. William Marohn was awarded The University of Toledo Gold T
Award at the Founders Day 125th anniversary of The University of Toledo. The Gold
T is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in his or her
particular field and has been of service to the University, community, state and/or
nation.
Mr. Marohn a native of Toledo graduated from UT in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical
Engineering. He served in the United States Air Force Medical Corps during the Berlin
Crisis and was an officer in both the Ohio and Michigan Air National Guard. He joined
the Whirlpool Corporation in 1964 as an industrial engineer. After holding other executive
positions, he was promoted to president, chief operating office in 1992. In February
1997 he was named vice chairman. Mr. Marohn established the Whirlpool Fellowship program
in the College of Engineering and he has been a generous patron of the College. He
also serves on the board of directors for Cooper Tire and Rubber Company of Findlay,
Ohio.
