Device and Wi-Fi Safety

Laptops, tablets, and smartphones are vital tools for learning, teaching, research, and healthcare, but they are also vulnerable entry points for cyber threats. Similarly, connecting to unsecured Wi-Fi networks increases the risk of data interception or account compromise. Securing devices and using safe network practices ensures that the university’s digital environment—from classrooms and labs to clinics and libraries—remains protected.

Device Safety

  • Keep operating systems and apps updated.
  • Use antivirus software and device encryption.
  • Lock devices with strong passwords or biometrics.

Wi-Fi Safety

  • Avoid public Wi-Fi for sensitive activities.
  • Use campus-secured Wi-Fi or a trusted VPN.
  • Ensure home Wi-Fi has strong passwords and encryption.
  • Turn off sharing settings (like file or printer sharing) when on public networks.
  • Regularly update router firmware to patch security vulnerabilities.
