Research Interests

My research focuses on two major aspects: transportation planning, modeling and policy analysis, and environment planning. In transportation field, I work on spatial analysis of transportation accessibility to dispersed opportunities like jobs, healthcare facilities, shopping centers, and recreational facilities. I also work on traffic safety and travel demand modeling & management. My recent research focuses on the determinants of transit travel behavior and demand, relationships between built environment, active transport (i.e., walking and biking) and health, work zone safety, age and driving cessation, relationships between public transit use and crime, and spatial analysis of crime. These research interests and agenda center on solving the safety and mobility issues in urban settings within the context of sustainability. In environmental planning, I am interested in research related to watershed management, stormwater management modeling, environmental impacts of natural disasters like floods, and adaptation and resiliency to climate change impacts in mega cities. I am also interested in urbanization and sustainable development planning & policy analysis in developing countries, with specific interests in South Asia. I utilize GIS, remote sensing, and statistics (both classical and spatial) as tools in my research.
