- Provost Report: Interim Provost Scott Molitor
The proposed merger and partnership between the College of Arts and Letters and the Judith Herb College of Education is expected to be finalized by fall 2025. “The College of Arts and Letters [currently provides] half if not more, in some cases up to 90%, of the required curriculum” for education majors, particularly undergraduates. The focus is to “pool the resources we have for growth,” not cut budgets. A committee will be formed with faculty representation from both colleges, and process will lead to a merger proposal for Faculty Senate, and then the President and Board of Trustees in spring 2025.
- Executive Committee Report: Ammon Allred
The committee discussed the agenda for today’s meeting, the need for an Executive Committee replacement for Holly Hey (Arts Representative), and the news of the upcoming merger of CAL and JHCOE.
- Faculty Senate Report: Gaby Semaan
The Executive Committee report mentioned the merger of neuroscience and psychiatry, and a meeting Dr. Postel with an update on the Master Plan. The Provost shared information about the Arts and Letters and Education merger, and program data for major prioritization is being worked on. Guest speakers included Greg McDonald with an enrollment update.
- Graduate Council Report: Jami Taylor
Discussion included the potential of moving to third-party credentialing for some international students to facilitate the processing of graduate applications, and possibly changing the Incomplete policy for graduate students to align with undergraduates.
- Elections Committee Report: Beth Schlemper
Elections will be held in April. Emails will be sent to solicit nominations for two at-large lecturer representatives, and one each at-large T/TT in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Three spots on CCAP are also up for election; one each in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
